Balochistan’s Militant Surge, AJK Tensions and the Makkah Pact: A Week of Intensifying Security Challenges

Militant activity in Pakistan remained elevated during the six-day reporting period from 7–12 August, with 36 attacks recorded nationwide compared with 39 attacks during the previous seven-day period. The human cost of militant violence  witnessed a significant reduction, with 29 fatalities and 12 injuries reported compared with 64 fatalities and 63 injuries in the preceding week. Balochistan emerged as the most affected region, accounting for 18 attacks, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and the former FATA districts, each recording nine attacks. Security forces conducted 15 operations across the country, resulting in the reported killing of 47 militants, while three civilians were killed and three security personnel injured. Balochistan accounted for the majority of security-force actions, with nine operations resulting in 34 reported militant fatalities, while operations in South Waziristan and Hangu also inflicted significant losses on militant groups.
