The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has emerged as a key actor in Balochistan’s socio-political landscape, operating under the banner of human rights advocacy while simultaneously amplifying separatist narratives. This study presents the first detailed academic profile of BYC, tracing its origins, leadership structure, mobilization
strategies, financial networks, and relationship with separatist elements. Unlike its predecessors, such as BSO-Azad and the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), BYC has positioned itself as a new platform for sustaining separatist activism, leveraging mass protests, digital advocacy, and international outreach. The movement’s strong female-led leadership marks a strategic departure from traditional Baloch nationalist organizations. This
research critically examines the state’s response to BYC, which has included restrictions on its fundraising, arrests of key figures, and financial scrutiny under counterterrorism laws. The Pakistani government has accused BYC of receiving financial backing from smuggling networks and foreign actors, particularly India, and Western entities opposed to CPEC. The study evaluates these claims while highlighting the economic dimensions of BYC’s mobilization. Using Relative Deprivation Theory and the Proxy Warfare Model, this paper assesses how separatist actors have rebranded their activism through BYC, making it adaptable to modern digital and
grassroots activism. The findings suggest that BYC’s rise is not merely a reaction to political marginalization but part of a broader strategy to sustain separatist influence in Balochistan. The study concludes with policy recommendations, arguing for a calibrated state response that includes financial regulation, intelligence-driven monitoring, and strategic political engagement to neutralize BYC’s influence without inadvertently legitimizing its activism.
