Pakistan’s security environment remained challenging during June 2026, although the overall intensity of militant violence declined modestly compared to the previous month. A total of 118 militant attacks were recorded nationwide, an 8 percent decrease from May, while fatalities fell by 37 percent to 112 and injuries by 10 percent to 148. Despite this improvement, militant groups sustained a high operational tempo, demonstrating the ability to conduct coordinated attacks against security forces, civilians, and critical infrastructure. Balochistan remained the most affected province in terms of attack frequency, closely followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the former FATA continued to experience disproportionately high casualties. Militant activity remained concentrated across Pakistan’s western border regions, particularly southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the merged tribal districts, and the Makran and Rakhshan divisions of Balochistan. The attack on the Rangers headquarters in Karachi further demonstrated militants’ ability to strike major urban centres. The decision by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) to formally separate from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and resume independent attacks added a new dimension to Pakistan’s evolving militant landscape and may complicate future counterterrorism efforts.
